Familiars

Familiars are spirits and/or animals that have been bound by their master after being tamed.

Mostly any person within the powers or skill of being able to tame can acquire a familiar of any kind of spirit or animal in question.

After Rou obtained the [Job - Monster Tamer], he went out to obtain familiars that can make good pets and help in battle. Originally, he caught enough to give to each of the high ranking members including bears, horses, and wolves. Upon returning from the first expedition, he found that there were subordinates that became able to tame animals and became known as riders. They were able to tame familiars that could be used to go into battle.

Horses were the first familiar found by Rou. He tamed it and gave it to E. Afterwards, he gave others to Sato and Mi. Kanami's Horse ranked up into a Crimson Triple-Horned Horse. Many other horses have been used by other Parabellum forces as evidenced by the siege against the Strong Grandson's fortress city. One thing of note is that it was never directly stated if E's horse every adapted to her new size after her rank up into an earth lord variant.

One of the first few familiars gained by Rou was a hind bear. He gave these bears to Kichi, Sei, and himself. These three bears in particular ended up evolving in order to better aid their masters. For example, Kichi's bear, Kumakichi, evolved into a Steel armored bear. Bears are often used in Kichi's heavy assault unit, Anger.

On his way back from the first expedition, he stopped in order to gain about 30 Falaise Eagles to be used as familiars. They can't carry too much but can be used for great purposes like intelligence gathering or air bombings.

As time continues, Rou ends up taming not just combat ready animals but those that can be used for food or labor. For example, he obtains bearbees for honey and Coccos for eggs as well as meat.

Rou eventually gains the ability to summon dragons. These dragons are generally used for transport of people or goods for trading and travel.  Tatsushirou , an ancient fire dragon, was created from fossils found in Funeral Volcano using an apostle lord ability.

During the head count for combatants participating in the holy war (on day Day 311)  there were 500 listed.

Familiars can also be gained from a summoning ability. For example, Mi gains the ability to summon familiars after her rank up on day 120 with the ability intermediate summoning: sacred beast. They are presumably summoned from another reality or dimension considering what is mentioned by Rou about familiars belonging to Kanami and Hyulton.

It is currently unknown what happens to a summoned familiar should they perish or if they are even able to do so.
